Welcome
Agro-geoinformation, the agricultural-related geo-information, is the key information in the
agricultural decision making and policy formulation process. The Agro-Geoinformatics, a
branch of geoinformatics, is the science and technology about handling digital
agro-geoinformation, such as collecting (mainly through remote sensing and field
investigation), processing, storing, archiving, preservation, retrieving, transmitting,
accessing, visualization, analyzing, synthesizing, presenting, and disseminating
agro-geoinformation. Recent advances in geoinformatics have created new opportunities and
challenges in applying agro-geoinformatics to agriculture monitoring, assessment, and
decision making. The International Conference on Agro-Geoinformatics is a major venue for
professionals and students to exchange ideas, research results, professional experiences,
and future vision in the fields of geoinformation science, remote sensing, and their
applications in agriculture.
This First International Conference on Agro-Geoinformatics (Agro-Geoinformatics 2012) will
be held in Shanghai, China on August 2-4, 2012. This conference has been sponsored by USDA
through a Science and Education Competitive Grants Program grant "Enhancing Knowledgeable
Agricultural Decision Support in Global Perspectives - Collaborative Partnership in
Agro-geoinformatics Education and Research Exchange" and other organizations. The Center for
Spatial Information Science and Systems (CSISS) of George Mason University is responsible
for organizing and Shanghai Jiaotong University for hosting the conference. We estimate that
at least 200 professionals from all over the world will attend the conference. The
conference will include plenary, oral, and poster sessions.
